Sunday morning Book Study group will start "The Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc" by Mark Twain at 11:15am on Sunday, January 7 in the Boardroom. This fictional biography of Joan of Arc is told from the viewpoint of a lifelong friend, telling of Joan's early childhood in Domremy and her touching story of the voices, to the fight for Orleans, the taking of Tourelles and Jargeau, and the splendid march to Rheims. Throughout his life, she remained Clemens' favorite historical figure and the book - completed after 12 years of research, 2 years of writing, and when the author was nearly sixty - was the author's favorite project, stating, "It means more to me than anything I have ever undertaken." If you would like to order the book on Joan of Arc, please e-mail Jilldimond@cox.net by December 29. The book is also available on audiobook and Kindle or you can order your own copy.
On February 18 we will begin "The Power of the Cross: Good Friday sermons from the Papal Preacher" by Cardinal Raniero Cantalemessa. For over forty years, the Capuchin Father, in his role as Preacher to the Papal Household, has delivered a yearly homily in St. Peter's Basilica during the Good Friday liturgy. He has offered his meditations in the presence of the last three popes: Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict, and Pope Francis. These insightful and moving sermons not only illuminate the mystery of the Lord’s Passion; they are also a precious instrument in view of a New Evangelization in “Spirit and power.” Cardinal Cantalamessa gazes on the cross of Christ in the light of our modern world, and the modern world in the light of Christ's cross.
