The Corporal Works of Mercy are found in the teachings of Jesus and give us a model for how we should treat all others, as if they were Christ in disguise. They "are charitable actions by which we help our neighbors in their bodily needs" (USCCA). They respond to the basic needs of humanity as we journey together through this life.
This Lenten season, we will focus on the Corporal Works of Mercy through donations to various local charitable organizations. We invite you to bring needed items for each organization throughout the week, and then join us at the end of each week for a Friday Lenten Meal, during which a representative will speak about their cause and collect the donations.
A donation box will be outside the Parish Office.
Vagabond Ministries
Please bring board games and sports equipment (soccer balls, basketballs, etc.) for the teenagers that Vagabond Ministries serves in our urban and inner-city communities.
Caritas Casitas by Catholic Charities
Christ the King has partnered with Catholic Charities on their Caritas Casitas Project, an initiative designed to furnish homes for individuals transitioning out of homelessness. Our parish goal is to collect $5,000, which will furnish two homes to those most in need.
CCAOKC is developing a pocket neighborhood made up of 12 efficiency units designed to foster neighborly interactions while preserving personal privacy. The project is designed to have a common green area and outdoor gathering space from which a sense of community may arise naturally among its residents. The 12 units will be configured in six two-story vertical duplexes on a concrete slab. Each unit will have a 20 x 20 footprint with 375 sq. ft. of living space. Catholic Charities will lead site preparation, build foundations, install utilities, and set up BOXABL fabricated Casitas, a cost-efficient, modular-style shippable home equipped with a full kitchen and bath, washer/dryer, and heating/air conditioner. This project, with a projected completion date of Spring 2024, will provide affordable rental housing for 20 years or more.
